Spanish Supreme Court upholds fine against Alvise Pérez
The Spanish Supreme Court has upheld a ruling ordering MEP Luis Pérez Fernández, known as Alvise Pérez, to pay 10,000 euros in compensation to Jesús María Gómez Martín, the Chief of Police of the Canary Islands.
The ruling follows the dismissal of an appeal filed by the leader of the Se Acabó la Fiesta (SALF) party. The legal action stems from a March 2023 Telegram post in which Pérez shared a photograph of Gómez Martín, excerpts from his official curriculum vitae, and an image of the police chief with his partner.
The court determined that the publication constituted an unlawful intrusion into the privacy and personal image rights of the police official. The judicial resolution also held Pérez responsible for the insulting and derogatory comments made by third parties in response to the post, which reached tens of thousands of viewers. In addition to the indemnity, Pérez must cover the legal costs of the proceedings.
