Spanish towns face setbacks in public projects as Úbeda market tender fails and Vitoria‑Gasteiz sues Schindler

The municipality of Úbeda announced that a public tender to remodel its historic market, budgeted at €4.14 million, received no bids. Mayor Antonia Olivares said the council will conduct a technical analysis to understand why firms did not submit offers and will consider next steps to keep the project alive.

In Vitoria‑Gasteiz, the city council upheld a claim of €496,170 against elevator and escalator maintainer Schindler for alleged contract breaches. The local government rejected the company's appeal, keeping the claim in place while the case moves toward possible administrative litigation. The council may seek to recover the amount if the company does not settle.
