Spanish towns Orihuela and Torrent stage historic Moros y Cristianos festivals

In Orihuela, the Moros y Cristianos comparsa marked its 50th anniversary with a three‑part "embajada" led by Francisco Sánchez Mateos. The procession highlighted history, peace and sentiment, recreating the historic Pact of Teodomiro, featuring white and black horses, a ballet, and a family carriage that displayed the ambassador’s children.

In Torrent, the annual festivities featured a reenactment of the Christian Reconquista, symbolically returning a tower to the Christian side. Organisers added a tribute to King Jaume I on the 750th anniversary of his death. Mayor Amparo Folgado said the event “demonstrates the strength of our traditions,” while councilor María Fernández called it “a brilliant representation that brings us closer to the Grand Entrada.” The town now prepares for the forthcoming major parade of the Moros y Cristianos celebrations.
