Spanish towns Valdés and Artà start housing demand registries

The municipality of Valdés in Asturias has opened a registration form for residents interested in protected or affordable rental housing. The deadline for submissions is 24 July, with an information session on 7 July. Data collected will support the town’s Municipal Housing Plan, aligning it with the upcoming State Housing Plan and informing future housing projects.

In the Balearic Islands, the Artà town council has commissioned the Foundation University‑Enterprise of the Balearic Islands (FUEIB) to carry out a technical study to assess whether Artà meets the criteria to be declared a "tensioned residential market" under Spain’s Law 12/2023. The €5,445 contract will examine price trends, income levels and other indicators. If declared, Artà could apply measures such as rent caps and the state reference index to curb rising housing costs.

Both initiatives aim to gather accurate demand data to enable targeted local housing policies in response to Spain’s broader housing affordability challenges.
