Spanish transport sector faces diesel price risks and employment stabilization

The transport and logistics sector in Spain is facing significant economic pressure due to rising diesel prices. In the province of Alicante, the Provincial Federation of Transport (Fetrama) warns that over 6,000 companies are at risk. Fetrama president Antonio Marco stated that current measures, such as the 20-cent per liter subsidy, may be insufficient. He also noted that existing aid can reduce liquidity for small and medium-sized enterprises because they must advance costs and wait for administrative reimbursement.

Despite these financial challenges, employment data for the Spanish logistics and transport sector showed signs of stabilization in August. According to Ministry of Employment data, the total number of workers in transport and storage reached 1,185,039, representing a marginal monthly increase of 0.02%. While the general regime saw a slight rise of 0.01% compared to July, the self-employed segment experienced a minor increase of 0.09%. Overall, the sector saw a 3.59% increase in total social security affiliates compared to the same month last year.
