Spanish Treasury issues 4,000 million euros in 20-year green bonds

The Spanish Treasury has executed significant debt operations, including the issuance of 4,000 million euros in a 20-year syndicated green bond. This issuance, which matures in July 2047, saw high investor interest with demand exceeding 82,000 million euros. Participating banks included Barclays, BBVA, Crédit Agricole CIB, J. P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, and Santander. The Ministry of Economy noted that the high quality of demand from central banks, international organizations, and pension funds reflects market confidence in the Spanish economy.

Additionally, the Treasury auctioned 2,416.82 million euros in 3-month and 9-month bills. The 3-month bills carried a marginal interest rate of 2.464%, while the 9-month bills reached a marginal yield of 2.783%, marking some of the highest returns in nearly two years. These auctions occurred ahead of an expected interest rate decision by the European Central Bank. Looking forward, the Treasury anticipates financing needs of 55,000 million euros for both 2025 and 2026.
