Pasapalabra drops 'El Rosco', launches 'AlaZ' after Supreme Court ruling

The Spanish TV quiz "Pasapalabra" on Antena 3 was forced to abandon its iconic final round, "El Rosco", after the Supreme Court confirmed that the intellectual‑property rights to the game belong to the Dutch company MC&F. The decision ended a 26‑year run of the circular word‑guessing format. To keep the programme on air, Atresmedia acquired the rights to the Swiss format "DallAZetA" and introduced a new final called "AlaZ". The new game displays the definition and the exact number of letters on screen, allows contestants to ask for a “letter” hint that costs five seconds, and raises the starting time from 85 to 110 seconds. Visual design changes replace the circular board with a linear layout and new graphics and music. The debut on 19 June 2026 saw David Trigo and Javier Alonso each achieve 22 correct answers, tying the score and leaving a €658 000 prize at stake. Antena 3 also removed recent episodes featuring "El Rosco" from its streaming platform, while the original format is expected to reappear on Telecinco under a different name.
