Spanish workers and consumer groups demand fuel tax relief

Spanish self-employed workers and consumer organizations are calling for government intervention to combat rising fuel costs. The Intersectoral Association of Self-Employed Workers of Cuenca (CEAT Cuenca) is requesting fiscal measures, such as reducing VAT and increasing the reduction of Special Hydrocarbon Tax, to mitigate the economic impact on professionals like farmers, transporters, and installers who rely on vehicles for their daily operations.

Simultaneously, the Organization of Consumers (OCU) has reported significant price hikes, noting that gasoline rose from 1.48 to 1.93 euros per liter and diesel increased by 34.4% between late February and late September. The OCU is proposing five measures to the government, including income-based aid for households, strengthening public transport, and promoting more efficient mobility through flexible working hours and shared travel.
