As of October, a 20-cent per liter discount on hydrocarbon taxes has taken effect, resulting in a 4.64% drop in gasoline prices to approximately 1.849 euros per liter and a 0.88% decrease in diesel to roughly 1.917 euros per liter. This relief follows a schedule of 20 cents in October, 13 cents in November, and 6 cents in December, with a safeguard clause to restore the 20-cent discount if oil prices rise by more than 15%. While these measures have broken a multi-month rising trend, fuel costs remain significantly higher than a year ago. Furthermore, the European Union has expressed pressure on the Spanish government to eliminate these discounts, labeling them “counterproductive.”
