Spanish youths increasingly invest in financial markets
Spanish youths aged 18 to 35 are increasingly turning to financial markets to build economic security. According to reports from the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), one in three young people in this demographic has invested in markets within the last year. However, more than half of these investors have committed less than 1,000 euros.
BBVA Research provides a broader perspective, estimating that 46.2% of Spanish youths have invested in financial markets at some point. This trend is driven by economic uncertainty and the rising cost of living. Experts note that high housing prices have made traditional savings methods, such as saving for a mortgage, increasingly difficult. While 20 years ago a home could be acquired with 3.5 years of annual salary, that figure has risen to approximately 8 years of annual salary today.
Young investors are utilizing technology to access diversified indices like the S&P 500 and MSCI, as well as individual stocks, to hedge against inflation and uncertain pension systems.
