Sparkle celebrates 30 years of Seabone IP transit backbone
Sparkle, the international services provider and part of the TIM Group, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Seabone, its global Tier-1 IP transit backbone. Established in September 1996, Seabone began operations with 45 Mbps connections linking Milan, Palermo, Miami, and Montreal.
Over three decades, the network has expanded into the seventh largest Tier-1 Internet network globally. It currently operates a fully redundant, proprietary fiber optic network exceeding 600,000 kilometers, spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East. The infrastructure serves over 600 customers through 126 Points of Presence (PoPs) and Telehouses, providing low-latency connectivity to ISPs, hyperscalers, and content providers.
