Spetses monk seal Alexis shows recovery signs after rescue
A young male monk seal named Alexis is showing positive signs of recovery at the MOm Care Center following his rescue on the western coast of Spetses. Alexis was discovered wandering beaches for several days without his mother, appearing underweight and dehydrated.
The rescue operation was conducted with the support of the Spetses Port Authority, a local veterinarian, and volunteers. Since beginning intensive care on August 23, the seal has successfully started renewing his coat and has reached satisfactory weight levels.
Organizers aim to release Alexis back into his natural habitat in the Aegean Sea once his rehabilitation is complete and environmental conditions are favorable.
