Mediterranean monk seal rescue and rehabilitation

Overview

A young male Mediterranean monk seal named Alexis is undergoing rehabilitation at the MOm Care Center following a rescue on the western coast of Spetses. After being discovered wandering beaches for several days without his mother, appearing underweight and dehydrated, Alexis has received intensive care since August 23.

Supported by the Spetses Port Authority, local veterinarians, and volunteers, the seal is showing positive signs of recovery, including coat renewal and reaching satisfactory weight levels. Organizers intend to release Alexis back into the Aegean Sea once his rehabilitation is complete and environmental conditions are favorable.
