Spiš Castle to undergo 10.2 million euro restoration

The Slovak Ministry of Culture has launched an international tender for the second stage of restoration at Spiš Castle. The project, valued at over 10.2 million euros excluding VAT, focuses on the Romanesque Palace and the complex of western palaces, including the chapel.

The restoration work will include construction and conservation efforts, archaeological research, the renewal of technical utilities, and the modification of adjacent courtyard areas. The goal is to improve the technical condition, safety, and operational functionality of these national cultural monuments while creating conditions for new exhibition uses and better public accessibility.

Financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Program Slovensko, the project is expected to begin in the spring of next year. The construction phase is estimated to last 23 months, with a planned completion date no later than October 2029.
