Spin Time activists announce Rome protests over housing eviction

Activists from Spin Time have announced a national march in Rome scheduled for September 19, followed by an assembly on September 20. The demonstrations are a response to the July 29 fire and subsequent eviction of the housing and cultural center located on via Santa Croce in Gerusalemme.

The planned march intends to move from the building's gates toward the offices of Investire Sgr, the property owner. Following the eviction, approximately 400 residents had been camping outside the premises. While the Municipality of Rome has relocated 260 people and is seeking temporary housing for the remainder, negotiations for the city to purchase the building from Investire Sgr have failed.

Activists stated that the movement aims to challenge urban policies in Rome, which they describe as increasingly dominated by real estate funds, hotels, short-term rentals, and luxury residences.
