Sportivo Ameliano rescinds controversial journalist dress code

Paraguayan football club Sportivo Ameliano has withdrawn a controversial dress code policy for journalists and photographers following widespread criticism. The club's press department had initially issued guidelines for the upcoming match against Olimpia, requesting “sport elegante” attire and prohibiting shorts.

The rules included specific restrictions for women, such as bans on low-cut tops, midriff-baring clothing, and leggings in colors other than black or dark blue. The club justified these measures by citing its status as a “family club” with youth football students present in the stands.

The controversy was sparked by a viral image of sports photographer Adriana Caballero, which reportedly prompted the new regulations. Caballero expressed shock at the decision, noting that such rules could hinder the professional comfort and effectiveness of her colleagues.

Sportivo Ameliano President Héctor Melgarejo has since apologized, stating that the policy was published without his authorization. Melgarejo described the situation as “crazy” and clarified that the club values the work of media professionals and does not wish to judge them based on their appearance.
