Colombian football clubs unite for earthquake relief efforts

Following a major earthquake in Colombia, the nation's football community has mobilized to provide relief and support to affected regions. In Cali, traditional rivals América de Cali and Deportivo Cali have set aside their competition to work together on donation drives, coordinating with local authorities to distribute supplies. Players and staff from various clubs are actively participating in collection efforts.

In Pereira, the sports community, including athletes from the Risaralda Athletics League and players from Deportivo Pereira, have been involved in rescue efforts and providing food and water to shelters. Some clubs, such as Millonarios and Atlético Nacional, have proposed continuing matches to use gate receipts for humanitarian aid, a strategy supported by América de Cali's management.

Amidst the disaster response, international football schedules for Colombian teams have been impacted. Deportes Tolima’s Copa Libertadores series against Independiente del Valle has been postponed. Other clubs, including Santa Fe, remain active in the Copa Sudamericana, though their schedules have also been affected by the seismic event.
