Sports infrastructure developments in Salerno and Naples
In Salerno, at least six major sports facilities are currently out of use, including the Arechi and Volpe stadiums, Palatulimieri, Vitale swimming pool, Pattindromo, and the Torrione tennis courts. The lack of available venues has forced amateur clubs to relocate to the province for training and matches. In response, the Centro Storico Salerno club has requested to play home matches in Prepezzano and has proposed returning to the Vestuti stadium if it is equipped with new turf.
Meanwhile, in Naples, negotiations regarding a new stadium for SSC Napoli are advancing. The club and Q8 are reportedly in advanced discussions to secure approximately 25 hectares of land at the former San Giovanni a Teduccio refinery. The proposed project envisions a stadium with a capacity of roughly 70,000 seats, featuring 120 next-generation skyboxes and significant urban redevelopment. If an agreement is reached and administrative hurdles are cleared, construction is estimated to take between 24 and 30 months.
