SSC Napoli club management and infrastructure developments

Overview

SSC Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis continues to face scrutiny regarding the club’s ownership and infrastructure strategy. While rumors of a club sale have circulated, journalist Paolo Esposito reports that no serious offers exceeding 2 million euros have been received, suggesting De Laurentiis intends to remain in charge for at least three more years, with a potential future transition of leadership to his children.

Controversy has intensified over proposed infrastructure changes, specifically the potential demolition of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to make way for a new facility in San Giovanni a Teduccio. Tensions have also risen between De Laurentiis and the club’s ultras regarding the commercialization of stadium space.

Developments regarding the ‘Cittadella Azzurra’ training center in Qualiano are nearing a significant milestone. Legal and financial consultants are currently finalizing bureaucratic details to allow for the formal signing of a preliminary contract for the acquisition of approximately 18 hectares. The facility will include ten football pitches, professional offices, a swimming pool, a 2,000-seat stadium for Youth League matches, and integrated housing for young players.

Negotiations for a new stadium are also advancing. Discussions with the Aponte family (owners of MSC) regarding land at the former San Giovanni a Teduccio refinery have evolved into planned meetings in Switzerland. These discussions aim to explore a partnership for the construction of a 70,000-seat arena, potentially involving deeper involvement from MSC beyond its current sponsorship role.

Regarding team management, despite recent challenges in Serie A and the Champions League, De Laurentiis has indicated he does not intend to dismiss head coach Massimiliano Allegri, emphasizing that results must improve to maintain stability.
