Spotify expands free Managed Accounts for kids to all subscription tiers in major markets
Spotify announced that its "Managed Accounts" feature for children, formerly limited to paid Family plans, is now free and available to any user, including those on the ad‑supported tier. The rollout began on 15 July in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany and the Netherlands, with plans to add Canada and additional regions.
The child accounts provide a separate music‑only profile with parental controls: explicit‑content filters, disabled video and Canvas visuals, no messaging, private and unsearchable profiles, and the ability for parents to block specific songs or artists. Children receive their own personalized playlists (Daylist, Discover Weekly, etc.) and a distinct year‑end Wrapped summary that does not affect the parent’s recommendations. Free‑tier Managed Accounts will play short, Spotify‑produced educational messages instead of standard ads, and Spotify says it does not share young listeners’ personal data with advertising partners. "We're removing the cost barrier to accessing managed accounts, and are really pleased to be opening them up to young listeners around the world," said Barry Nevin, Spotify’s product lead.
