Spotify free child accounts rollout

Spotify announced on 15 July 2026 that its Managed Accounts feature for children, previously limited to paid Family plans, is now free and available to any user, including those on the ad‑supported tier. The rollout began in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany and the Netherlands, with plans to add Canada, additional European nations and South America.

The service provides a separate music‑only profile for children under 13, with parental‑control tools that filter explicit content, block specific songs or artists, and disable podcasts, video and messaging. Children receive personalized playlists and a distinct year‑end Wrapped summary that does not affect the parent’s recommendations. On the free tier, standard ads are replaced by short Spotify‑produced educational messages; Family‑plan users retain ad‑free premium playback.

A follow‑up report on 18 July confirmed the same regional launch and emphasized the safety features. On 26 July, Spotify clarified that free‑plan users will still encounter the educational ads, while Family‑plan members keep premium benefits without playback restrictions. The Managed Accounts continue to isolate the child’s listening history from the adult’s account and block explicit songs and videos.

The overall aim is to remove cost barriers and offer a supervised, safer music experience for households with young listeners.
