Spotify launches AI-powered Running Mode for Premium users

Spotify has introduced Running Mode, an AI‑driven feature that builds personalized playlists for runners. Users select a workout type, duration, beats‑per‑minute target and music genre, and the system generates a seamless soundtrack from 25 preset configurations that can be further customized. The feature is accessed through the Fitness Hub section of the app and includes optional English audio cues that announce phase changes such as warm‑up, interval and cooldown.

At launch Running Mode is limited to Premium subscribers on iOS devices and is being rolled out in seven markets: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. It does not rely on real‑time sensor data or GPS; instead it uses the parameters the user provides before the run. The rollout is part of Spotify’s broader push into fitness content, complementing its Peloton classes and other workout‑related offerings.
