Badan Gizi Nasional suspends nutrition units following food safety incidents

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has taken disciplinary action against several Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) following food safety incidents related to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in Indonesia.

In Tulungagung, East Java, the Tanjungsari 1 SPPG has been suspended for 20 days for evaluation and training. This follows reports that 198 students and teachers at SMKN 1 Boyolangu experienced digestive issues after consuming meals consisting of grilled chicken, sambal, and grapes. The agency is currently reviewing production, processing, and distribution standard operating procedures (SOP).

In Batang, Central Java, the BGN issued a formal reprimand to the SPPG in Bawang District. Officials identified improper food processing procedures, noting that certain ingredients, such as eggs, were cooked the previous night and processed again the following morning. BGN Deputy Head Trenggono emphasized that MBG meals must be consumed immediately on-site and should not be taken home to prevent spoilage.

Separately, the SPPG Sumberejo in Lamongan has resumed operations after implementing a “Total Filter Solution” technology to improve wastewater management. This innovation, developed in collaboration with academics, aims to ensure that liquid waste discharged into the environment is clear and odorless.
