Italian travel preferences shift toward workations and cautious bookings
A YouGov survey for Omio found that only 6% of Italian travellers choose their holiday destinations based on social‑media trends. The majority prioritize personal interests (58%), budget (50%) and logistics (40%). As a result, 53% are satisfied with their last trip and 40% consider it especially meaningful, while pressure to document trips online is low (4% feel the need to share).
At the same time, the "work‑vacation" (workation) model is gaining traction. Le Marne Relais in the Langhe region offers luxury facilities that combine remote work spaces with sports, wellness, and gastronomy, highlighting a growing demand for blended leisure‑work experiences.
Industry data from Alpitour World, based on responses from more than 5,700 travel agencies, shows a sharp contraction in bookings (84% report a decline) and heightened concerns about cancellations, fuel‑price volatility and travel‑insecurity. Agencies are seeking flexible price‑lock and cancellation policies to reassure customers, indicating a cautious outlook for the tourism sector.
