Sprout recalls issued following Salmonella and E. coli outbreaks
Multiple sprout recalls are underway in the United States due to contamination concerns involving Salmonella and E. coli.
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC has recalled broccoli sprouts distributed in Idaho, Montana, and Washington, though officials warn the product may have reached other states. The Salmonella outbreak linked to these sprouts has sickened at least 22 people across Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Washington, with 16 cases reported in Washington. Two hospitalizations have occurred, and production was halted on September 4.
Separately, the FDA has issued a Class I recall—its highest risk level—for alfalfa sprouts produced by International Sprout Holdings and Everything Sprouts. The recall involves approximately 43,799 pounds of sprouts. International Sprout Holdings products were distributed across numerous U.S. states as well as Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Tahiti, and Venezuela. Everything Sprouts, based in Minnesota, recalled several varieties sold in Minnesota and Wisconsin following outbreaks of Salmonella and E. coli that affected dozens of individuals in those states.
