Square Enix announces Final Fantasy Resonance for 2026

Square Enix revealed a new main‑series title, **Final Fantasy Resonance**, during a Nintendo Direct presentation. The game will be the franchise’s first entry rendered in HD‑2D graphics and is built around the inaugural storyline of the former mobile title **Final Fantasy Brave Exvius**. Producer Keisuke Nakashima explained that the mobile game was “too good to become unplayable,” prompting the creation of a console‑focused experience.

Resonance adapts the turn‑based combat of classic Final Fantasy while adding a timeline view, stun‑based extra turns and a “Visions” system that lets players equip abilities from iconic series characters such as Cloud, Terra and the Warrior of Light. The narrative follows knights Rain and Lasswell of Grandshelt as they strive to stop Veritas of the Dark from shattering world‑balancing crystals.

The title is scheduled for release on **22 October 2026** for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Physical editions will be available for Switch, Switch 2 and PS5.
