Square Enix unveils Final Fantasy Resonance HD‑2D trailer
Square Enix released a second trailer for its upcoming RPG Final Fantasy Resonance, showcasing the franchise's first use of the HD‑2D visual style that blends pixel‑art characters with three‑dimensional environments. The trailer reveals key locations such as the steel‑crafted city Dilmagia and the water‑surrounded capital Olderion, introduces new characters like engineer Lid and strategist Nichol, and highlights gameplay features including turn‑based combat, a Vision system that summons classic series heroes (e.g., Cloud, Tidus, Cecil), weapon‑crafting, mini‑games, a Colosseum and a Chamber of Arms. The game is based on the opening story arc of the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and expands it into a full‑console experience. It will launch on October 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC, marking the first Final Fantasy title to adopt the HD‑2D aesthetic.
The trailer also provides a glimpse of the narrative premise: the world’s crystal‑based peace is threatened after the Earth Crystal is shattered by a mysterious enemy, prompting the protagonist Rain and his squad to embark on a quest to protect the remaining crystals.
