Srebrenica genocide remembrance events held in Montenegro and Vienna

On July 11, Montenegro's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN resident coordinator hosted a panel discussion marking the International Day of Remembrance for the Srebrenica genocide. Speakers included Montenegro's deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ervin Ibrahimović, UN coordinator Karolin Tiso, the Bosnian ambassador to Montenegro, the German ambassador, human‑rights advocates and the director of the Srebrenica Memorial Centre, Emir Suljagić. The discussion stressed that truth‑finding, education and accountability are essential for lasting peace and warned against denial and revisionism.

Three days later, at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, an international conference titled “Commemoration, Reflection, Reconciliation” marked the 30th anniversary of the genocide. Organized by the Bosnian Academic Society in Austria with support from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s UN mission, the event featured diplomats, scholars and diaspora representatives from Bosnia, Austria, Germany and other countries. Participants reflected on trauma, collective memory and the need for continued education to prevent future atrocities.
