Srebrenica Safe Haven Fall Leads to Killing of 8,000 Bosniak Men

On July 11, 1995, the United Nations‑designated safe haven of Srebrenica in Bosnia‑Herzegovina was seized by Bosnian Serb forces. The takeover was followed by the mass killing of more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys, an event regarded as a genocide and one of the most notorious war crimes of the Bosnian conflict.

The massacre remains a focal point for international justice efforts and remembrance of the atrocities committed during the 1990s Balkans wars.
