Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rain and gusty winds in four districts
India's Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai warned that heavy rain with strong gusty winds is expected on Thursday and Friday in four Tamil Nadu districts – Koyambuthur, Theni, Tirunelveli and the Nilgiri hill areas. The forecast also calls for moderate rain across many other districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Vellore, extending through the weekend. Temperatures may reach about 36 °C, offering temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
The department attributed the weather to a weak low‑pressure system over the northern coastal region, which is enhancing moisture flow from the Western Ghats. Residents in vulnerable hill and coastal zones have been urged to stay alert, avoid travel during thunderstorms, and be prepared for possible flash flooding and traffic disruptions.
The warning remains in effect for the next few days, with updates to be issued as atmospheric conditions evolve.
