Sri Lanka dengue outbreak reaches nearly 95,000 cases and 72 deaths
Sri Lanka is facing a severe dengue outbreak, with the National Dengue Control Unit reporting 94,805 cases and 72 deaths so far this year. The transmission has seen a sharp escalation, particularly in June and July, with July recording 29,962 cases.
The Western Province remains the most heavily impacted region. Health officials have warned that the ongoing monsoon season is creating ideal breeding conditions for the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Authorities are urging the public to eliminate stagnant water, use repellents, and seek immediate medical attention for symptoms such as high fever and joint pain.
