Sonal Dinusha scores dual centuries to force Colombo Test draw
The second Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo ended in a draw, allowing India to secure a 1-0 series victory. Despite India's dominance and a first-innings lead of 213 runs, Sri Lankan batsman Sonal Dinusha delivered a historic performance to save the match.
Dinusha scored centuries in both innings, finishing the second innings unbeaten on 133. His resilience, supported by lower-order batters like Keshara Nuwantha and Lahiru Kumara, prevented India from enforcing a win after they had requested the follow-on. This performance makes Dinusha one of the few players to score three centuries in a two-match Test series.
On the Indian side, Devdutt Padikkal was named Player of the Series after scoring 328 runs at an average of 109.33. While India won the series, the draw has implications for their World Test Championship (WTC) qualification, as the dropped points make their path to the final more difficult. Indian captain Shubman Gill noted that while the team played well, they struggled to take the final wickets required to secure the win.
