Overview

The second Test in Colombo ended in a draw, resulting in a 1-0 series victory for India following their win in the first Test. While India initially appeared positioned for a 2-0 whitewash after declaring at 503/9 and establishing a first-innings lead of 213 runs, Sri Lanka salvaged the match through a resilient second-innings performance.

He became the first Asian player to score fifty or more runs in each of his first four Test innings against India and joined Aravinda de Silva and Kumar Sangakkara as the only Sri Lankans to score three centuries in a single two-match Test series. He also became the 83rd player to score twin centuries in a Test match.

For India, Devdutt Padikkal was named Player of the Series after scoring 328 runs at an average of 109.33. Indian captain Shubman Gill noted that while the team played well, they “struggled to take the final wickets required to secure the win.” The draw prevents India from improving its position in the World Test Championship standings, leaving them in fifth place and complicating their path toward the final.
