Sri Lankan political coalition meets Indian Envoy and President
A coalition of six political parties in Sri Lanka has been conducting a series of high-level meetings with various government and diplomatic officials. The group, which describes itself as a platform to address common issues for Tamil-speaking communities rather than a formal electoral alliance, has met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Indian Envoy in Colombo.
During their discussions with the Indian Envoy, the coalition emphasized the need for the rapid conduct of Provincial Council elections, a priority also shared by the visiting Indian External Affairs Minister. However, the coalition's first primary demand—the creation of a new Yapahuwa—appears to be a point of less interest for India, as such a move could potentially bypass the 13th Amendment, a key component of the India-Sri Lanka agreement.
