Sri Lanka’s IMF Review and ADB Clean‑Energy Funding Boost Recovery Drive
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation led by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou conducted a week‑long review in Colombo, assessing Sri Lanka’s progress on governance reforms, anti‑corruption measures, state‑owned enterprise restructuring, tax administration and customs digitalisation. The IMF’s assessment will determine whether the country qualifies for the eighth instalment of its Extended Fund Facility, valued at about SDR 254 million (US$335‑350 million).
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a US$57.4 million financing package for Sri Lanka’s Rooftop Solar Aggregation and Virtual Net‑Metering Project. The package includes a US$35 million concessional loan, a US$16.9 million EU grant and a US$5.5 million grant from Japan, supporting roughly 25 MW‑peak of rooftop solar, grid modernisation, green‑skills training and increased women’s participation in the clean‑energy sector. Both initiatives aim to reinforce Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and sustainable development amid ongoing fiscal challenges.
