Srinagar officials and inspector investigated for corruption

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched investigations into multiple instances of corruption and illegal construction in Srinagar.

In Rajbagh, the ACB registered a case against several former officials and private beneficiaries following a joint surprise check. The investigation alleges irregularities in granting building permissions for a multi-storey building in the River Jhelum flood basin. The probe claims permissions were modified to increase building height and plinth area without mandatory no-objection certificates. Additionally, the accused are alleged to have encroached on approximately 2.9 kanals of state land and built over drainage infrastructure. Named individuals include former officials from the Srinagar Development Authority and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.

In a separate incident in Batamaloo, the ACB apprehended a Junior Building Inspector of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Gazala Akhter. She was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a ₹10,000 bribe from a builder. The complainant reported that the official was deliberately obstructing construction activities despite the builder having obtained the necessary permissions.
