Anti-Corruption Bureau investigations in Jammu and Kashmir
Overview
The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has conducted several investigations and enforcement actions targeting bribery and administrative irregularities across different districts.
In Srinagar, investigations were launched into illegal construction and land encroachment in the Rajbagh area. The ACB alleged that former officials from the Srinagar Development Authority and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation modified building permissions for a multi-storey structure in the River Jhelum flood basin without required certificates. Additionally, a Junior Building Inspector was apprehended in Batamaloo for allegedly accepting a bribe to cease obstructing permitted construction activities.
In the Udhampur and Reasi districts, the ACB executed trap operations resulting in further arrests. In Udhampur, a former Patwari was charge-sheeted for allegedly demanding a bribe to issue land documents. In Reasi, an Assistant Sub-Inspector was arrested after being caught with funds allegedly demanded in exchange for presenting a charge sheet in an investigation.
