SSPX Superior General Davide Pagliarani Issues Declaration of Faith to Pope Leo XIV
The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX) leader, Superior General Fr. Davide Pagliarani, released a formal “Declaration of the Catholic Faith” addressed to Pope Leo XIV on 14 May 2026. The document re‑affirms the SSPX’s position on *extra ecclesiam nulla salus*, stating, “There is only one Faith and one Church by which we may be saved…every man must be a member of the Catholic Church in order to save his soul.”
In the same statement, Pagliarani reiterated the Society’s intention to proceed with episcopal ordinations without a pontifical mandate, scheduling them for July 2026 despite a recent warning from Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, that such actions could trigger excommunication. The declaration seeks to present SSPX’s stance as a faithful Catholic response and calls for adherence to what it describes as the “minimum indispensable” requirements for communion with the Church.
