St. Francis 800th Anniversary Marked by Italian Cultural and Religious Events

A series of events in Italy commemorate the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi’s death. One piece examines Francis’s testament, written months before his death, highlighting his gratitude to Christ, his love for the Church and the priesthood, and his spiritual conversion after encountering a leper. The testament reflects his belief in the Eucharist and the sacramental role of priests.

Another event, the Festival dell'Umano in Rome, brings together ministers, clergy, sociologists and civil‑society groups to discuss contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, family fiscal policy, and end‑of‑life care. Participants called for a more equitable family tax system, a revision of the ISEE, and expanded support for large families, while Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti pledged to use any positive international developments to boost family‑related policies. The festival also advocated for guaranteed 24‑hour care for severely dependent people and opposed regional policies that could encourage assisted suicide.
