St Luke’s Anglican Church to celebrate 90 years in Canungra

St Luke’s Anglican Church in Canungra will host a weekend of celebrations on October 17-18 to mark its 90th anniversary. The church is considered an iconic landmark and is noted as the most photographed building in the area.

The structure has deep historical roots linked to World War I. Following the loss of their son Noel in France, the Lahey family donated 50 pounds to the church building fund, which was subsequently matched by others in the district. The church was constructed using local native timbers milled at Lahey’s sawmill, including rosewood walls from the Beechmont bushland and rose gum hardwood floors.

Rev Helen Paget, who has served as the pastor for the last three years, is leading the anniversary events alongside a team of volunteers.
