Stabia mayor Vicinanza refuses resignation amid Camorra infiltration probe

Inspectors from the Prefecture concluded that Stabia’s municipal administration, led by mayor Gennaro Vicinanza, was infiltrated by the Camorra. Their report urged the mayor to step down, but Vicinanza persisted, keeping his coalition in power. The ongoing scandal led the Council of Ministers to dissolve the city’s government despite pressure from the Democratic Party for his resignation.

The inquiry highlighted that earlier resignations, such as that of councilor Oscurato, did not prevent the dissolution, and officials noted that an early resignation by the mayor could have averted the collapse of the administration.
