Stablecoin activity surges as transaction volume hits record $1.79 trillion

Adjusted stablecoin transaction volume reached a record $1.79 trillion in June 2026, matching February’s total and 62 % higher than May. The volume was led by USDC ($1.2 trillion) and USDT ($571.7 billion), while other tokens such as PayPal’s PYUSD and the Global Dollar consortium contributed modest amounts. Transaction counts neared 203.4 million, with USDT accounting for about 145.8 million of those and USDC about 57 million. USDT’s primary chains were Binance’s BNB Chain and Tron, whereas USDC activity was concentrated on Solana, Base and Polygon.

Binance Research reported that stablecoin‑settled TradFi perpetual contracts exceeded $1.1 trillion in the first half of 2026, representing roughly 11 % of all crypto perpetual trading. Around 30 % of Binance users now hold more than half of their portfolios in stablecoins, up from 4 % in 2020. Adoption is expanding in Latin America, where the share of Binance’s stablecoin transfer users grew to 38 % in 2026. Traditional remittance firms have entered the space, with Western Union launching a USD‑pegged stablecoin on Solana and MoneyGram issuing its own on Stellar.
