Stade Brestois to honor late coach Éric Roy
Stade Brestois will hold a major tribute to former coach Éric Roy during their upcoming match against Paris Saint-Germain at Stade Francis-Le Blé. The event follows Roy's death in June 2026 at age 58 after a three-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
The tribute comes amid criticism of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) for failing to mandate an official minute of silence during the first day of the Ligue 1 season. Jérôme Alonzo, a former PSG goalkeeper and close friend of Roy, expressed deep disappointment and sadness regarding the league's lack of a collective gesture for the coach, who had been managing Brest as recently as May.
While the LFP did not implement a league-wide tribute, several clubs have offered local gestures of respect. The planned ceremony at Brest is expected to include a wreath-laying at the foot of a stand and the participation of Roy's family.
