Stade Brestois tributes to Éric Roy
Overview
Following the death of former Stade Brestois coach Éric Roy in June 2026 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, the club has initiated several commemorative actions.
Stade Brestois announced the re-release of the iconic “Team Pirates” or “King Eric” cap, which Roy frequently wore during his medical treatments. All proceeds from the cap sales will be donated to the oncology department of the Brest University Hospital (CHU de Brest) via the Innoveo endowment fund.
The club also planned a major tribute to be held during a home match against Paris Saint-Germain. This ceremony is expected to include a wreath-laying and the participation of Roy’s family. The local tribute follows criticism directed at the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) for not mandating a league-wide minute of silence at the start of the Ligue 1 season.
