Stadtradeln 2026 sees strong participation across German cities

During the three‑week 2026 Stadtradeln campaign, the joint team of the University of Bielefeld and Hochschule Bielefeld logged 51,944 kilometres, earning second place among 287 local teams. More than 300 students, staff and faculty took part, averaging 169 km each— a marked increase from the previous year. The event, part of the Climate Alliance’s city‑wide bike challenge, supports the university’s goal of having at least 75 % of members commute sustainably by 2030. Professor Dr. Dominik Schwarz, the university’s sustainability officer, said, “Aktionen wie diese unterstützen dieses Ziel und zeigen, dass wir auf dem Weg dorthin sind.”

In Bavaria, the towns of Amberg and Amberg‑Sulzbach have opened registrations for their own Stadtradeln stretch from 4 to 24 July, with a kickoff ceremony on 3 July. Residents are urged to replace everyday trips with cycling to improve health, cut emissions and earn local prizes. Organisers stress the campaign’s role in promoting everyday mobility and climate protection.
