Stakeholders call for menopause awareness at West Africa event

At the Menopause West Africa Experience 2026, stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and policymakers called for increased awareness and support for women undergoing menopause. Participants emphasized the need to break the silence surrounding this biological transition to combat stigma, misconceptions, and limited access to professional medical guidance.

Clifford Okwesi, Chairman of the Menopause West Africa Organizing Committee, urged employers, families, and policymakers to foster supportive environments. He advocated for menopause and perimenopause to be discussed as openly as menstruation to ensure women are better prepared for the physical and emotional effects of the transition.
