Standard Bank donates K50 million to Malawi University of Science and Technology endowment
Standard Bank Plc pledged K50 million to the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) Endowment Fund. The donation was presented by the bank’s chief executive, Phillip Madinga, to Education Minister Bright Msaka during the university’s 7th Congregation. The endowment aims to provide sustainable financing for scholarships, research grants, innovation projects and infrastructure, with a focus on under‑privileged students. Madinga said the contribution supports Malawi’s 2063 development blueprint by building capacity in STEM education and entrepreneurship. Outgoing MUST Vice‑Chancellor Professor Address Malata welcomed the gift, describing it as a timely boost for expanding access to quality education and research.
The fund will channel the money into student scholarships, research grants and innovation initiatives that align with national development goals, reinforcing Standard Bank’s broader corporate‑social‑investment focus on education, health and economic empowerment.
