Higher education funding and scholarships in Malawi

Philanthropic efforts to support higher education in Malawi have been highlighted through significant financial contributions to university students and institutions.

Standard Bank Plc pledged K50 million to the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) Endowment Fund. This donation, presented to the Education Minister, is intended to provide sustainable financing for scholarships, research grants, innovation projects, and infrastructure, specifically targeting under-privileged students to support national development goals in STEM and entrepreneurship.

In separate initiatives, private foundations have provided direct assistance to students at the University of Malawi. The Jane Ansah Foundation provided over K1 million to support a student with essential living and academic expenses, while the Apostle Hulda Kamanga Foundation awarded a K20 million scholarship to a Biological Sciences student to cover a five-year degree. The latter foundation is currently supporting 15 other students as part of its mission to assist financially disadvantaged learners.
