Stanford researchers identify key biological aging inflection points

Researchers from Stanford University and Nanyang Technological University have discovered that human aging does not occur in a steady, linear fashion. According to a study published in Nature Aging, biological changes occur in accelerated, non-linear bursts at two specific ages: 44 and 60.

By observing the RNA, proteins, and microbiomes of participants over several years, scientists identified these critical inflection points. Professor Michael Snyder of Stanford University noted that the significant changes observed around age 60 align with the increased risk of age-related conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegeneration, and cancer.
