Starlink introduces Personal Maritime plan for small boat owners

SpaceX is introducing a new “Personal Maritime” Starlink plan aimed at small boat owners following community complaints regarding recent roaming restrictions. The plan is priced at $185 per month and provides unlimited data and use within territorial waters (up to 12 nautical miles from the coastline) worldwide.

The new service allows for international coastal travel beyond the 30-day limit previously imposed on Roam plans. However, the plan includes specific limitations: it is strictly for personal, small watercraft and prohibits use on vessels exceeding 40 feet in length, commercial operations, or use on land. For travel in international waters beyond the 12-nautical-mile limit, an “Ocean Mode” is available at a cost of $6 per GB.

This move follows SpaceX's decision to restrict international roaming on its Roam Unlimited plan and the discontinuation of the $400-per-month Global Roam option, which had left many maritime users facing significantly more expensive alternatives.
